Extreme Positions

As a member of the consistently right wing Florida House from 2000-2003 and Florida Senate since 2003, Sen. Mike Haridopolos has become the spokesperson for a number of extreme, out of touch views on issues that concern all Floridians. Some of these positions include:

  • Opposed the Fair Districts Amendments, passed by 63% of Florida voters, designed to keep politicians from drawing skewed districts favoring incumbents. He proposed an amendment that would have effectively neutered the effect of Fair Districts.
  • Supports bringing back infamous "leadership funds", which act as secret slush funds for legislators.
  • Pushed to allow unsafe oil drilling as close as 3 miles to Florida beaches.
  • Wants to tell local governments what to do by imposing revenue limits. A similar proposal in Colorado was a disaster.
  • Believes giving health care for the young, poor, and elderly over to greedy HMOs is a good idea.
  • Worked to stuff the Public Service Commission with utility lobbyist-backed nominees.
